The Great Challenge – Weeks 14 & 15
No, I didn’t drop out of The Great Challenge with Dean.
I just neglected to update the blog here. Sorry about that. I’ve also been off my game posting about the latest podcast episodes. Guess I’ll have to do another multi-episode roundup. For purpose of this post, though, suffice it to say I’m up to Episode 91, where I read chapters 26 & 27 of The Pericles Conspiracy.
Anyway, I had success both weeks. Got new stories written each time, and I’m in the middle of writing story #16 right now. So all is well.
Here’s the tally of challenge stories so far.
- Red Orchid – Romance – 3,800 words
- Debts And Obligations – Fantasy – 14,200 words
- Naughty And Nice – Modern Fantasy – 4,800 words
- Popper’s – Mystery – 4,100 words
- The Case Of The Missing Rocker – SciFi/Mystery – 7,200 words
- Fences And Neighbors – Post-Apocalyptic – 4,800 words
- Give A Dog A Bone – Doggy Mystery – 3,200 words
- No Title Yet – Romance – 5,300 words
- Lost On Cordant Station – Science Fiction – 8,560 words
- Kicking The Anthill – Urban Fantasy/Adventure – 3,863 words
- VIP Treatment – Modern Fantasy – 6,012 words
- A Man Of Faith – Religious/Supernatural Thriller Maybe? – 9,013 words
- Abe’s Liquors – Romantic Suspense – 2,951 words
- Cave Diving For Dummies – Sea Story/Suspense – 3,491 words
- Work Release – Science Fiction – 4,910 words
That brings it to 86,225 words total for this challenge, and 124,112 words for the year over the span of 65.62 hours (1,896.96 words/hr on average).
If you’ve been paying attention to it, you may have noticed my average words/hr is creeping upward. And that is certainly happening. The last several stories I’ve written I averaged over 2,000 words/hr. Pretty sweet.
The best pace I’ve ever achieved was when I wrote Robbed Blind while on deployment in November 2014. I was just killing it, something like 2,500 words/hr on average. Since then, I’ve been more around 1,600-1,800, which is what I had been averaging before. But sheesh, starting to creep back up again. Funny what consistency will do for you, right?
That’s all I’ve got for now. I’m on deck for The Infinite Bard this week, so I’ll be sharing a new story of mine in a couple days. Keep an eye out!
Talk to you next time.
