The Great Challenge – Week 10

10 Weeks down in The Great Challenge with Dean Wesley Smith.

As predicted in my last challenge update post, I got really busy last week with Fyrecon. Nevertheless, I got the 10th story done.

I continued to be very busy after that, though, because I had to go from Salt Lake City to Norfolk, VA for my day job. And flights got cancelled, and I met up with some old friends, and one thing led to another and I got back to San Diego exhausted. So obviously I got very far behind in updating this blog. And in doing the podcast. Still haven’t finished the episode from last week.

But that’s ok. Getting the story written was the main thing. So success!

Here’s the tally of challenge stories so far.

  1. Red Orchid – Romance – 3,800 words
  2. Debts And Obligations – Fantasy – 14,200 words
  3. Naughty And Nice – Modern Fantasy – 4,800 words
  4. Popper’s – Mystery – 4,100 words
  5. The Case Of The Missing Rocker – SciFi/Mystery – 7,200 words
  6. Fences And Neighbors – Post-Apocalyptic – 4,800 words
  7. Give A Dog A Bone – Doggy Mystery – 3,200 words
  8. No Title Yet – Romance – 5,300 words
  9. Lost On Cordant Station – Science Fiction – 8,560 words
  10. Kicking The Anthill – Urban Fantasy/Adventure – 3,863 words

That brings it to 59,934 words total for this challenge.

Even more interesting is this fun fact. I’ve been keeping detailed track of how much time I spend writing, down to the minute, and the number of words I get done in each session. In point of fact I’ve been doing this ever since I started writing, but I only ever really kept track project-by-project. This time I’ve been compiling annual statistics as well. So far this year I’ve written 108,710 words, spread out over 15 stories, in 58.65 hours.

I’m averaging 1853.54 words per hour.

That is a very, very good pace. đŸ™‚

I’ve started this week’s story, but haven’t gotten very far in it so far, and it’s Saturday night. But I have a good idea where the story’s going and I don’t have a whole lot on the plate for tomorrow. Between that and my average writing pace these days, I’m confident I’ll be able to git ‘r done.

More to follow after I finish this week’s story.
