Glimmer Vale Facelift

As you all know, I hired James Beveridge to make the covers for my Glimmer Vale Chronicles books.  He’s great and I really like his work.  I think the covers he made look awesome.

But…

Frankly, the books sales haven’t been all that great.  Folks who read Glimmer Vale like it, and go on to like the subsequent books.  But despite a number of marketing campaigns over the years the series hasn’t caught on.

I’ve been thinking for a while, even before The Falconer’s Stairs, that I needed to re-examine the marketing material: cover and sales copy.  But I was hesitant because I like Jim and because I was thinking of the sunk cost I’ve already put into them.

And that’s a no-no.

Well, at the Business Master Class in October I broached the subject with several other people and they all agreed the covers need changing.  Not because the art is bad, but because it doesn’t really hit the genre or tell the story of what the books are.

So I commissioned Brandon Swann, who I know from these workshops, to give the series a facelift.  We’ve finished the new cover for Glimmer Vale, and over the next couple month’s he’ll be doing the other books as well.

And so….the big reveal.

The old cover
The new cover.

Quite a change, eh?  I think for the better.

That’s all I’ve got for the moment.  More news to follow.  But in the meantime, Merry Christmas!

  1. Meh. I understand that a lack of sales could be addressed by a change in overall look and marketing, but I like the first cover more. The artwork is better and provides more insight into the story. The second definitely changes the tone, but looks like a screenshot from Everquest.
