Winner!

Scrivener counted 50,074 words, but my official NaNoWriMo word count is 50,056.  The difference doesn’t matter though, because I won baby!  Aw yeah!

🙂

Here’s a screen grab from my stats page on the NaNoWriMo site.

You can see a couple weeks ago where my professional setback also set back my writing.  At one point I was over 10,000 words behind the nominal word count.  It would have been tempting at that point to say screw it and quit.  But where’s the fun in that?  Over the last week and a half, I’ve really been able to crank it hard, including my single largest word count day to date (last Friday at 5,576 words).  End result – a WIN, baby.  Woohoo!

Now, Glimmer Vale is not done.  Not completely.  I still have about 1,000 to 2,000 words of the final battle to write and a few thousand words in the middle. I wager it’ll end up at around 60,000 words total.  Not quite as short as I thought it would be, but still a nice quick, and (dare I say it?) fun read.  I expect I’ll have it, and the first Pericles Conspiracy novella, done before the end of the year.  That, and another Writers of the Future submission.

It’s going to be a fun Christmas holiday.

  1. Woo! Great job! Like you, I was behind the count a time or two during November (the hazards of moving to Korea in the middle of the month – oops), but I eventually managed to get it done. There’s nothing quite like a come from behind victory, especially one that is on this scale. I still have a good, long ways till I’m done with my book (unlike my wife, who is probably within 10,000 words (mutter, mutter, mutter), but I’m going to keep up through December, January, and even February, as long as I need to in order to get it done.

But, Congratulations and keep up the hard work!
