30,000 Word Challenge – Days 8 and 9
Didn’t post last night because I was totally wiped. And a bit embarrassed.
I didn’t get back from work until almost 7 pm last night. Then I had to make up some lazagna and bring it to my colleague, who recently had his first kid. I’d volunteered to bring dinner to help he and his wife out. And man, did he need it: he was looking rough. Apparently, the kid is very fussy, and won’t sleep. Ever. I feel pretty lucky, in that sense. All three of mine slept quite well, even as newborns. Not sure how I would have handled an eternal crier.
Anyway, he lives about 30 minutes away, so I didn’t get back from delivering dinner until almost 9, and then I had to east, myself. So I didn’t get even started writing until 10. And then the last several nights staying up late and getting up early smacked me about the head and shoulders, and I was literally nodding off next to my laptop by 10:45. So I said screw it, and hit the rack. But I set my alarm for 4:30, thinking I’d get up early to make up for my poor showing.
Nope. The alarm work me up, but I couldn’t move until about 6:45, and I have to be at work at around 7:30, so no dice there.
So yeah, last night was not a good writing night. Total word count: 289. Bleah.
I got back today, though, and determined that I was going to make up for it. So after cooking up a quick dinner, I got to typing at around 7:30-ish. I called it quit at 11:45. Word count: 4,291. Not bad. My best writing day ever, in fact. Woo!
So that brings my total word count for this challenge to 25,808 in 9 days. Pretty darn good!
So my 30,000 goal is still in reach. If I can do tomorrow what I did today, I’ll hit it. It ain’t over til the fat lady sings, right?
Ok, I’m going to hit the sack now, and get up early for some writing.
